In the last\u00a07\u00a0days\u00a0since\u00a0its launch,\u00a0the system, a\u00a0first-of-its-kind solution by a telecom service provider,\u00a0has been able to successfully identify\u00a070 million\u00a0potential spam calls and 1.2 million\u00a0spam SMS in Maharashtra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution, which is&nbsp;free of cost,&nbsp;has been&nbsp;auto activated&nbsp;for all Airtel customers without them having to raise a service request or download an&nbsp;app.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting on the launch,\u00a0<strong>George Mathen, Chief Executive Officer, Maharashtra and Goa, Bharti Airtel,\u00a0<\/strong>said,\u00a0\u201cEvery\u00a0scam\u00a0begins with a\u00a0spam\u00a0call.\u00a0As a result, most people\u00a0are reluctant to receive calls\u00a0from numbers they do not recognize\u00a0or\u00a0to\u00a0click on a link shared\u00a0via\u00a0SMS. With Airtel\u2019s AI powered solution,\u00a0all such fears\u00a0can\u00a0be put to rest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>33\u00a0million Airtel customers in Maharashtra no longer\u00a0have\u00a0to\u00a0worry\u00a0about\u00a0any\u00a0such\u00a0frauds\u00a0since\u00a0Airtel has\u00a0empowered\u00a0them\u00a0with a defense mechanism that will alert them to all\u00a0such\u00a0spam calls\u00a0and SMSes\u00a0in\u00a0real time. Available only\u00a0to\u00a0Airtel customers, this solution will be one of the\u00a0key\u00a0differentiators\u00a0compared\u00a0to\u00a0other service providers\u00a0in the state.\u00a0We are committed to\u00a0working towards removing all annoying disturbances for our\u00a0customers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developed in-house by Airtel\u2019s data scientists, the AI-powered&nbsp;solution&nbsp;uses a proprietary algorithm to identify and classify calls and SMSes as &#8220;Suspected&nbsp;Spam&#8221;. The network powered by&nbsp;a&nbsp;state-of-the-art AI algorithm analyses various parameters such as the caller or sender&#8217;s usage patterns, call\/SMS frequency&nbsp;and call duration amongst&nbsp;several others,&nbsp;on a real time basis. By cross-referencing this information against known spam patterns, the system flags suspected spam calls and SMSes accurately.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;dual-layered&nbsp;protection, the solution has two filters \u2013 one at the network layer and the second at the IT systems layer. Every call and SMS passes&nbsp;through this dual-layered AI shield. In&nbsp;two milliseconds&nbsp;the&nbsp;solution processes 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls.&nbsp;This is equivalent to processing 1 trillion records on a real time basis using the power of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the solution also alerts customers to malicious links received via SMS. For this, Airtel has built a centralised database of blacklisted URLs and every SMS is scanned in real time by a state-of-the-art AI algorithm to caution users from accidently clicking on suspicious links. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution can also detect anomalies such as frequent IMEI changes \u2013 a typical indicator of fraudulent behaviour.
